Civilian aircraft are allowed to fly to 40,000 feet; military aircraft,
above that because they can achieve their objectives faster and safer. Chuck
Greene discovered that there was another benefit to flying way up there
“where the air is rarified.” At 60,000 feet, we have the clearest
view. It is a view that allows the
expansion
of horizons, the clearer assimilation of ideas and the creation of a vision
without constraints. It was to the 60,000-foot level that, figuratively,
he took officers of the Barbershop Harmony Society in 2003 as he envisioned
a path to recovery, a way to impede the decline of the Society’s membership
and the strategies necessary to launch the Society into the 21st century.
His research was published as:
“Resurgence of the Barbershop Harmony Society—
A View from 60,000 Feet”

The “Resurgence…” treatise was and is genuinely worthy
of a read. It traces and details the causes of Society membership decline,
draws conclusions and recommends manageable and hands-on strategies to revitalize
the Society. These strategies work and Chuck is demonstrating the feasibility
and validity of his concepts on an ongoing basis.
